Wheelchair Tennis Paralympics 2024 Google Doodle: As the Paris Paralympics 2024 continues to captivate sports enthusiasts around the world, Google on Tuesday commemorated the wheelchair tennis event through an eye-catching doodle featuring animated birds.
The doodle features two birds in wheelchairs playing a sport in the ancient Parisian garden of the Jardin du Palais Royal, or Jardin des Tuileries. "Great attitude and great service. Wheelchair tennis starts today at the Stade Roland-Garros!" the search engine wrote on its official Google Doodle page.
The 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris kicked off the wheelchair tennis events on August 30 and they will end on September 7 at the Roland Garros stadium, famous for its clay courts. The tournament will feature singles and doubles matches in men's, women's and quad categories. On Sunday, Alfie Hewett (Great Britain), Martin de la Puente (Spain), Todiko Oda (Japan) and Gustavo Fernandez (Argentina) qualified for the last 16 in matches with different profiles. Wheelchair tennis, first held at the Barcelona Paralympic Games in 1992, is played at all four Grand Slam tournaments. According to the official website, the International Tennis Federation Wheelchair Tennis Tour now includes more than 150 events. The sport divides athletes into two categories: the Open Class, for athletes with a permanent disability of one or both legs, but with a normal arm. The Quad Class, for athletes with additional restrictions in the playing arm, limiting the ability to handle a racket and maneuver a wheelchair.
